Correlations between Kinematics and Metallicity in the Galactic Bulge: A Review
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent large-scale surveys of galactic bulge stars allowed to build a detailed map of the bulge kinematics. The bulge exhibits cylindrical rotation consistent with a disky origin which evolved through bar-driven secular evolution. However, correlations betweenmetallicity and kinematics complicate this picture. In particular ametal-poor component with distinct kinematic signatures has been detected. Its origin, density profile and link with the other Milky Way stellar populations are currently still poorly constrained.

The Outer Regions of the Galactic Bulge : II { AnalysisRodrigo
Velocity, chemical abundance and spatial distribution data for some 1500 K-and M-giants in the Galactic Bulge, which are presented in an accompanying paper (Ibata & Gilmore 1995), are analysed. We provide three levels of analysis: an almost model-independent determination of basic symmetry properties of the galactic bulge; a more detailed analysis based on conservative assumptions, which invest...
متن کاملGlobular Clusters in the Galactic Bulge
A view of the Galactic bulge by means of their globular clusters is fundamental for a deep understanding of its formation and evolution. Connections between the globular cluster and field star properties in terms of kinematics, orbits, chemical abundances, and ages should shed light on different stellar population components. Based on spatial distribution and metallicity, we define a probable b...
متن کاملAge and Metallicity Distribution of the Galactic Bulge from Extensive Optical and Near-IR Stellar Photometry
We present a new determination of the metallicity distribution, age, and luminosity function of the Galactic bulge stellar population. By combining near-IR data from the 2MASS survey, from the SOFI imager at ESO NTT and the NICMOS camera on board HST we were able to construct color-magnitude diagrams (CMD) and luminosity functions (LF) with large statistics and small photometric errors from the...
متن کاملMetallicity Dependence of the Blazhko Effect
The microlensing surveys, such as OGLE or MACHO, have led to the discovery of thousands of RR Lyrae stars in the Galactic Bulge and in the Magellanic Clouds, allowing for detailed investigation of these stars, specially the still mysterious Blazhko phenomenon. Higher incidence rate of Blazhko (BL) variables in the more metal-rich Galactic Bulge than in the LMC, suggests that occurance of Blazhk...

The High Resolution Echelle Spectrometer (HIRES) on the Keck I telescope has been used to measure the first radial velocities for stars belonging to eleven, heavily-reddened globular clusters in the direction of the inner Galaxy. The sample consists of the clusters Terzan 3, NGC 6256, IC 1257, NGC 6380 (= Ton 1), Ton 2 (= Pismis 26), Djorg 1, NGC 6540 (= Djorg 3), IC 1276 (= Pal 7), Terzan 12, ...
